Composition

Composing for film and TV is Sam's most recent pursuit in the music industry. Ever since being introduced to the profession by his housemate in university, Sam has been producing demos and working with young film makers to build his portfolio. He uses his harmonic knowledge from Jazz as well as his experience playing different instruments and musical styles to achieve the targeted brief as best as possible.

Sam has also had the opportunity to work for the production music company REDCAT Creative, where he worked alongside other composers and producers to create library tracks for film and TV. From this he developed the skill of writing and recording music with a faster than usual turnaround time.

Fishermen

Fishermen is a student film Sam composed in the summer of 2021 and his primary goal was to capture the lighthearted nostalgia many feel when fishing with a family member, while also conveying the bittersweet memories of a loved one who is no longer with us. The most prominent instrument used is a nylon string guitar which not only has a beautiful voice when played finger-style, but also adds a certain childlike quality as it is often the first guitar one picks up when learning.

Volvo Ad

This advert was given to me as an assessment at LCM for a module called Music for Moving Image. The challenge was to score out the ad in 48 hours to prove that we could work under pressure. For my submission I wanted to portray the family memories we make with our cars, so I created a score that has elements of bittersweet emotion and nostalgia with a drastic dynamic build. I eventually went on to name this piece 'Pembrokeshire' as it reminded me of a particular family holiday of mine to the South West coast of Wales.

Christmas Ads

This was a very quick turnaround project for a garden center company to showcase their Christmas decorations and stock. I was asked to put together two 30s clips each with a different style, all while still encapsulating the Christmas energy. The first track for example was inspired by the tune "All Alone on Christmas" by Darlene Love, and the second was inspired by "Driving Home for Christmas" by Chris Rea.
