Bio

Sam has played guitar in particular for 13 years and is his main musical focus. He was inspired by artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Brad Paisley and John Mayer so he likes to think his roots are in the blues/country rock genre. He was never particularly interested in working his way through the grades but nevertheless he was able to jump to grade 8 when he felt ready. By the time he went to secondary school he showed interest in playing the drums and bass guitar and would practice each week after rehearsals at the youth music group he went to at the time. With his existing knowledge of music he was able to pick these up pretty quickly to the point where he was able to play in his year 7 Christmas concert and onwards to play on marked GCSE work by the end of his 5 years.

After secondary school he went to the East Sussex Academy of Music to study music performance BTEC level 3 and Music Technology A level. It was at this point when he realised his love for music production despite dabbling in the subject a couple years prior as he was exposed to the almost endless list of techniques and gear. He enjoyed delving into different techniques and stories about how certain players and producers achieved tone and even just listening back to mixes on the car stereo on his way home. It was also at college where he was first introduced to Jazz and, like sight-reading, he never thought he would find an interest for the genre. He was shown how to practice more efficiently, open up new possibilities all over the fret-board and general technique and because of this he began to improve faster than ever!

Now he resides in London after studying BMus Performance and Recording at the London College of Music for which he received a first class honours. He has built his essential skills In both fields and using them on a day to day basis. He played in the LCM jazz department big band, septet and numerous individual groups as part of the rhythm section. He played in musicals for the musical theatre department thus improving his sight-reading and session skills and he play shows all around London and the UK with bands and artists, building up his stage experience as a result. As part of his course he spent countless hours sat behind analogue mixing desks and patch-bays learning about studio recording and signal flow within a control room as well as mixing and sequencing helping him to become the best all-rounder as he can possibly be. It was also at Uni where he found his love for composition. He loved the idea of being the "man in the chair" behind a film or advert, reinforcing the emotion portrayed in the picture. He studied under Royal Academy of Music graduate Rosabella Gregory where he learned to write, transcribe and arrange for all instruments, and he found that the route of media composition was a perfect blend of his two disciplines of Music Performance and Music Technology.
